Taking cough medicine at the right time can increase your chances of getting pregnant. Some women have tacky CM and
cough medicine can help turn it into EWCM. However, cough medicine
cannot create mucus if you don't have any to begin with. Drinking lots of water can help you make mucus.
Cough medicines are commonly suggested to women who don't have a lot of EWCM.
Toni Wescheler, the author of
Taking Charge of Your Fertility recommends taking Robitussin. Doctors in the article,
Improvement of Cervial Factors with Guaifensein, recommend taking
guaifenesin. Although
cough medicine was not meant to help with fertility issues, but some women have found that, although it's
not licensed to help with EWCM, it does. Other women are not
comfortable
using medicines for things that they're not supposed to do. If you
decide to take it, make sure you are drinking lots of water and are
well-hydrated.
If you're going to take it, women usually take 2 teaspoons (200 mg) 2-3
times a day with a max of 4 teaspoons 4 times a day. If you're taking
the pill format, take 400-600mg. Women typically start 5 days before
ovulation and take it through ovulation.
To further
increase your chances of conceiving, you need to pinpoint your
ovulation. There are many ways to do this, such as using manual
OPKs (
Wondfo is cheap and consistently gets good reviews and there's also
Clear Blue Digital Ovulation Tests), digital OPKs, such as the
Clear Blue Fertility Monitor (It's expensive, but many women swear by it),
charting, or ferning (
saliva ovulation tests).
